The free assessment
One hour.
No charge.
A full 60 minutes. A qualified teacher. At your kitchen table. A written report you keep whether or not you ever book a lesson.
What actually happens.
Tell us what’s happening
A short phone call. No forms to wade through, no script.
An hour with a teacher
In your home, at your table, with your child’s schoolwork in front of us. Online instead if that suits you better — you choose, not us.
You get it in writing
Where the gaps are, when they started, what would genuinely help.
Decide then, not now
If your child doesn’t need us, we will tell you. That happens.
60 minutes
A full hour — not “up to” an hour.
A qualified teacher
Not a university student, and not a sales appointment.
In your home
Not a centre — unless you would rather go online.
A written report
Yours to keep, and yours to take to the school.
No card details. No obligation. The written report is yours either way.
Free, not “money-back”.
Most tutoring offers in Canberra are guarantees rather than gifts. A free consultation is a sales call. A first-lesson happiness guarantee and a thirty-day money-back promise both require you to pay first, book first, and then ask for your money back.
Ours is an hour of a qualified teacher’s time, given before you spend anything, with no card details taken and a written report you keep either way.
If the hour shows your child does not need tutoring, you will be told so and you will owe nothing — no lesson to cancel, no fee to claim back, no thirty days to wait out.
Being told no tutoring is needed has happened more than once. Families in that position tend to come back years later, when something genuinely does change.
Common questions
Before you book.
Is it really free?
Genuinely. It costs us an hour of a qualified teacher’s time, and we spend it because it is the only honest way to recommend anything. You keep the report whether or not you book a lesson.
Where does the assessment happen?
In your home, unless you ask for online. Centre-based services need your child in the car by 4pm and assess them in a room they have never been in. We assess where the homework actually gets done, because that is part of the diagnosis.
Does my child need to prepare?
No. Have recent school reports and any NAPLAN results handy if you can. Nothing else.
What if the answer is that we don’t need tutoring?
Then we say so. It has happened more than once, and those families tend to come back years later when something does change.

The short version
Why families pick us.
Named among Canberra’s best
One of five tutoring services named in Region Canberra’s guide to the best tutors in Canberra, updated December 2025.
Teaching here since 2004
Twenty-two years in this city — long enough to have taught in the same college a parent went to, and to know which primary schools run which reading programs.
Checked twice, not once
Every tutor and teacher holds a current ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration, and everyone who crosses the border to Queanbeyan holds a NSW Working with Children Check as well. Ask for the number before the first lesson.
Qualified teachers, not only tutors
Most tutoring in Canberra is delivered by university students. We field both, and the free assessment decides which one your child actually needs.
A second opinion behind every tutor
Every tutor is reviewed fortnightly by a qualified teacher on staff, so if something is not working it surfaces in a fortnight rather than at the end of term.
An hour before you spend anything
A full 60 minutes with a qualified teacher, at your kitchen table, and a written report you keep whether or not you ever book a lesson.
